Houses

Upon enrolment, all students are appointed to a House. Students identify with their House regularly in tutorial groups, on Sports Day, at the Twilight Athletics Carnival and other special days. The Houses provide a platform for the fostering of the Pastoral Care Programme.

A programme of Pastoral Care is implemented in the Middle and Senior School and for boarding students within the Residences.

Middle School students (Years 7, 8 and 9) are allocated Core teachers who work with Team Leaders to provide support. The Core teachers monitor each student’s progress and will meet regularly with students and parents to work together to support student progress.

House Days and special events are organised through the Middle School Leadership Team who meet regularly to make learning meaningful and fun. Pastoral Care in the Middle School focuses on areas of religion and values education, self development, wellbeing, resilience, health, achieving balance, effective learning strategies and managing life. The programme is woven into everything we do at Kormilda, both inside and outside of the classroom.

Senior School students (Years 10, 11 and 12) are allocated to Tutor Groups. For two periods a week they also participate in the Youth Development Programme. This programme develops understanding and skills in Values Education for a Multicultural World, Study Skills, Life Skills, Balancing a Healthy Life, Social Justice, Care and Community Service, Social Issues for Youth and Outdoor Education. The tutors monitor individual progress and meet regularly with parents to work together to support success.

Boarding School students are allocated to a Residence. In each Residence the House Parents, Assistant Heads and Heads of Residence support students to adjust to living away from home, to learn to live as a member of a community, to be healthy and to stay healthy, to succeed with their studies and to access a range of extra-curricular activities. Regular contact with parents, mostly via the telephone due to distances, enables parents and staff to work together. Parents are always welcome to visit the College in support of their child’s success.
