As part of the Science curriculum, all Year 7 students will have the opportunity to participate in Turtle Tracks Tours during Terms Two and Three. This is an accredited eco-tour which includes two guides, a qualified Skipper and two Kormilda College staff to supervise a maximum of twenty students on each tour.
The dates for these tours are especially chosen around the lunar cycle to optimise viewing of the nesting ground for Flatback and Olive Ridley turtles. Students will travel to Bare Sand Island arriving by sunset to explore the island with Team Turtle, learning about the first mariners who sailed these waters, the unique war history of the area, and traditional stories. After sunset, Team Turtle will take students for a guided walk around the island to watch the turtles lay their eggs.
