Helen Spiers

Principal: Helen Spiers PhD, MEd (Dist.Ed), BA, Grad Dip Ed, BEd, Cert IV TAA, Grad Cert Mgmt Dev.

Helen Spiers came to Kormilda College in July 2007 and brought with her more than 20 years experience as an educator in the Northern Territory.

Helen has completed her Doctorate with research entitled ‘Indigenous participation in tertiary education: elements of the institutional learning environment critical for course completion’ and is currently an active researcher with the School of Education at both the Charles Darwin University and the Southern Cross University.

Deputy Principal: Fay Gurr, Diploma Secondary Teaching, Grad Dip Religious Studies, Masters Degree in Educational Leadership.

Fay has worked in education for 34 years in secondary schools. Prior to starting her teaching career she operated a preschool kindergarten and had several years in nursing.

Her school experience has been as a teacher in Music; English; History and Religious Studies. I have worked for the NSW Education Department in my first appointment and then for most part with Catholic Education both in Diocesan schools and then in independent schools.

Fay came to Darwin 2 years ago, she enjoys the lifestyle and climate as well as the opportunities she had both professionally and within the community. She is actively involved with St Vincent de Paul Darwin, St Mary’s Parish Darwin, Tactile Arts Board and Southside Montessori School, Riverwood, Sydney. 

Wolfgang Woerner

Assistant Principal - College Operations: Wolfgang Woerner BA Civil Eng, DipEd, MEd Admin, ACEL

In 1988, Wolfgang was seconded from Victoria to assist in establishing Kormilda College as Head of Day School. In 1995 he was the founding Head of the Senior School. During these years Wolfgang completed his Masters in Education (Administration) through Deakin University.

As the School Operations Manager/Assistant Principal since 1998, Wolfgang has been responsible for the day to day organisation of the College, development of the Outdoor Education Camp Programs, GAP(Global Activities Project), now known as Lattitude Global Volunteering and Co-curricular. Wolfgang also teaches the International Baccalaureate Diploma Physics course and is an Assistant Physics Examiner.

As a nationally accredited Cricket Umpire, Wolfgang is the President and Umpire Manager of the Northern Territory Cricket Umpires Association. He has a passion for developing cricket at Kormilda for boys and girls. Wolfgang introduced our annual cricket exchange with Trinity College in Adelaide in 2001 and is working toward establishing an international cricket exchange program with Singapore in line with our international educational perspective

Head of Teaching Learning: Stephen Summers, BA Arts, Honours Degree in History, Dip Education, Grad Cert in Catholic Education, Cert IV in Training and Assessment

Stephen has been an educator for 30 years and in that time has worked in SA Government schools, Catholic Education, an International school in China and for the last 8 years in an Independent Anglican school in Adelaide. He has been in leadership positions as Head of English and EAL, MYP Coordinator, SACE Coordinator, Curriculum Deputy, Head of Middle School, Acting Principal, Project Officer. I have 25 years of leadership experience across a range of sectors.

In relation to the IB, Stephen has taught MYP and IB Diploma Language A and B for the last 10 years.

In addition, he has been a SACE English Studies and Communications Moderator and marker for the last 15 years and filled the role of Senior Marker for the NAPLAN in South Australia for the last 10.

Stephen’s passion is Literacy and English and he always seeking to improve his craft, so as to assist students to learn deeply, effectively and to achieve to a high level.

Stephen looks forward to working with the students, teachers and parents of the Kormilda College community in ways that build on and advance the high quality teaching and learning programs and results that already exist at the College.

Head of Wellbeing: Sara Bowman, BA Education

Head of Boarding: Anne Louise Cooper RN, Duty of Care Cert in Residential Education, Cert IV in community services, ASIST training, Crisis Management Training

Anne Louise Cooper commenced at Kormilda College in February 2009 as the school nurse. Having operated a successful childcare centre in the UK for 20 years her passion still lies in education and health.

Appointed to Head of Boarding in January 2010 she is responsible for
the day to day support and management of up to 230 boarding students. 

AnneLouise also coordinates the IYLP and ASPIRE scholarship programs.

Head of Primary School: Louise Peyton, BA of Education, Masters of Education, Post-Grad Dip Educational Studies (Student Wellbeing). Masters of Educational Leadership.

Louise Peyton joined Kormilda College in May 2014 in the position of inaugural Head of Primary for our Primary School which opened in 2015.

Louise completed her under-graduate studies at Australian Catholic University, Melbourne, and has since completed a Masters of Education at LaTrobe University, a Post-Grad Diploma in Educational Studies (Student Wellbeing) at the University of Melbourne, a Masters of Educational Leadership at ACU, and a Graduate Certificate in Theology at the University of Newcastle.

Louise has over twenty years’ experience in Catholic and Independent education in Melbourne and Darwin. She has held various leadership roles in curriculum and student wellbeing, and she is a passionate educator. 

Louise moved to Darwin in 2012 with her husband, John, and they have four adult daughters residing in Melbourne and London. 

 

Chief Financial Officer: Tamara O'Sullivan FCA, CTA

Tamara completed Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Commerce degrees from the Australian National University in 1996 and is a Fellow of both Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and The Tax Institute.  In addition to working as a Chartered Accountant and Senior Tax Manager in professional accounting firms in Sydney, Canberra and New Zealand and focussing on small business and non-profit organisations, Tamara has worked as a Corporate Tax Manager and Finance Manager.

Tamara moved to Darwin in April 2007 and joined Kormilda College as Chief Financial Officer in September 2015.
